My twenties

Herstory from the past
daisy blast From age 18 to age 21 I worked three jobs: I had a paper route for The Herald through-out North Miami Beach, a Lawn Service with about a dozen accounts, I also worked at Burger King part time and paid my way through college and obtained my Associates Degree in Science.
daisy white bsuit…and on those unusual days off… I loved going to the beach or spending my days out on the ocean in my purple metallic speed boat.
daisy jag I later applied for the Metro Dade Police Department – was accepted, I studied criminology and entered the police academy. I saved up every penny I earned and paid cash for my used jaguar. A small luxury that I enjoyed very much. Becoming a deputy sheriff at such a young age had it’s affect on me, seeing the dark side of humanity brought me closer to God and learned to enjoy my own company.
daisy mopedMy parents had different values about dating thing – values that they brought from their culture. I still don’t understand – but it’s okay. It was what it was. So, my first date at age 18 was at the court house, where Larry and I got married (he was the store manager where I worked and 10 years my senior, he had asked me out on a lunch date – but because of my parents values ended up proposing marriage). Ten years was the length of that relationship. Despite the fact that I walked away from that relationship (another blog post), I give credit to Larry King who indirectly nudged me to take pride in what ever work I’m engaged in, taught me the importance of taking care of the body, the idea to try new things, and a love of the ocean and beaches. I had a moped that I would ride around town for quick errands… so Florida.
dressup The next decade I worked as a deputy sheriff for Metro-Dade mostly on the midnight shift. I was a Field Training Officer and also had the opportunity to work in Robbery as well as directly with the Sheriff as one of the top Community Relations Officer as a local spoke person at community events, radio and television programs.

Ocassionally on my days off I enjoyed dressing up and going to see a play or listen to a symphony.

bahamas beauty pageantSome time in my mid twenties I traveled to the Bahamas and got caught up in the island magic and entered a beauty contest, I mostly did it for the fun and the outrageousness of the moment and, well I actually was crowned a Bahamian Beauty… like really? hahahaha, we have to laugh at ourselves sometimes- nah! all of the time.
daisy spotted dressAround age 27 I thought that police work was bringing too much darkness and making me a dull person and decided I’d try modelling; I answered a few calls and did some boutique modelling, until one day an agent suggested I do some plastic surgery to alter my look… I refused and that was the end of my modelling aspirations.
daisy bongosMy twenties were faded years, mostly spent working as a police officer with occasional spurts of sunshine. Between working night shift, court appearances in the morning and picking up off duty jobs doing security detail it did not leave too much room for fun. So I would surround myself with my own entertainment: bongos, my own gym, a pool table and some old time arcade games which would keep my mind away from any ugliness that I had picked up during my shift.

I look back at my twenties and all that I thought I was, I know now I was not.
My thirties and forties were dedicated to enjoying the gift of motherhood… and getting to know an amazing human being: Geordan

I am still here in the arena of life and as I get older… I realize how sweet life is. Seeing magic in the mundane and learning to love the woman I am becoming… grays, wrinkles and wisdom.
