Testing. This is Only a Test.

Every situation is a test. Every living moment holds a choice.

This weekend I learned alot about certain people in the company I work with: National Lending Corporation. It all started in April last month before I left on a business trip to Puerto Rico, the CEO explained that the lease at the Orlando office will expire and that we had 5 weeks or so to find a new location.

I had migrated from the Ft. Lauderdale office and relocated into the Orlando office over 18 months ago. I was told that there was a company office that needed leadership support in the Winter Park area and immediately I took that position and had it fully operational in 8 months. Unfortunately the life span of that office was just 8 months because its’ lease was not to be renewed. With the downsizing of the industry in general the CEO also seeks to downsize (but fails to communicate this to the managers). With the new lease expiring now at the Orlando office and the need to find a smaller location I thought this transition would be less stress since I was not the assigned administrative manager. Wrong.

I was in total shock how watching the leadership of the office crumble before my very own eyes. We only had three days to move and still on Friday there were people twiddling their fingers – these chiefs knew that they had to move but no one was taking action (unless of course, they knew something I was not privy to). I for one did not want to come across as an imposing force – Again, yet I could not tolerate watching the indecision whether it was because no one wanted to pay for a moving truck or storage, or perhaps no one wanted to lift heavy office furniture.

I know I don’t have all the answers, and I really want to believe in people- I want to believe in this company. I can only pray that as I move forward I can extract the lesson and keep my integrity.

Change is painful, and inevitable. So, slowly I’ll move towards change.
