Hugh Taylor Birch State Park

George wanted to visit his cousin who had flown in for vacation with his family, so I decided I’d drop him off and go further South and pick up my mom for a day adventure. A very smart move indeed.

It was a beautiful Florida day for a road trip. The sky a splendid blue with wispy clouds here and there. It was a sight to see both the moon and the sun up above on opposite sides of each other. The Florida rest spots are perfectly placed so it seems… and kept clean and secure for weary travels looking to take a break before going on the journey.

Odd how I lived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for so many years and never once did I visit Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, it truly is an urban oasis nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and Intracoastal Waterway

While down in South Florida I made sure to visit both my brothers Frankie and Edwin… lucky for me I had the bonus of seeing some of my nieces – Rachelle and Chantelle, they have grown so much since the last visit. Funny how both pictures of my brother also included the family mascots… Chloe is with Frankie and Lucky is with Edwin.

With mom in tow, we headed to Fort Lauderdale to tour around the area. First stop Hugh Taylor Birch State Park.

Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, is located across the street from Ft. Lauderdale’s beach, tucked away in a natural woodsy location in the heart of the big city. This park’s pride and joy is the banyan tree that was planted over 120 years ago!

The blue skies were suddenly turning a dark color gray and wind was slightly picking up… we tried to make the most of the day and took are travels to the beach side.

No amount of rain can stop these two Nature loving Sagittarius gals from enjoying the simple pleasures of life.

Time does seem to stop still when we are at peace and doing things that fill our soul. This day will be cherished in my heart. I watched my mother struggle with the idea of having to go for a long walk to discover this beautiful old tree… specially since her knees were aching her. I was so tickled when she mustered the courage to get out of the car only to discover that the tree in question was simply a few yards from where we parked, her laughter filled my heart as she seemed delighted with the view and the distance.

We topped our adventure with a toast of plum wine and recounted our adventure – specially the lost hat, which turned out she had been sitting on the whole time.

I returned to the East side to spend the night with my George. The next day we made two more stops before heading back to life in Central Florida… and it did not disappoint.

We stopped in at Croissant and Time – so far, the best French Bakery in Fort Lauderdale. The baguettes are perfect! We bought bags of baked goods to bring back home (not all of it made it back).

We made one last stop for a morning sunrise at Lauderdale by the Sea … who ever said life is not perfect simply does not understand life’s simple treasures.
